friday night soccer

Both girls played soccer and had a blast - Angela is on the purple team, Elyse is on the yellow.  I will have to take some good pics with my real camera, since my phone does not take good pics at night - booo....

my new mantra

Atlantic City International Triathlon

Scott and I had registered for this race a few months ago.  Atlantic City has NEVER had a triathlon, so we were excited to try a new race.  Luckily Grandmom Reedell took the girls for a weekend at "camp grandmom" and Scott and I headed down to AC on saturday for packet pick-up.  The rain was falling nicely, but it didn't stop us from going shopping at the outlets and even did some gambling (good job to Scott for winning at the slots).  We then went to Ocean City (where we were staying that night) and enjoyed a nice stroll on the boardwalk and at those all important "pre race french fries"... ok, not the best pre-race fuel, but they sure did tast FABULOUS!!

We were up nice and early, left the house at 5:00am, parked at the casino, walked into Boardwalk Hall (this was our first time having transition inside a builidng), got our "stuff" set up, and headed up the boardwalk to the start of the swim.  We were advised that the swim was shortened frm 1 mile to .6 miles and changed direction bc of the current.  As we walked up you could see the white caps... yes, big waves.  I was a little concerned, but figured the race officials would not allow us in if they had any questions.  Finally it was race time.  Scott's wave (the light blue swim caps) was first.  There were about 80 men in his group.  They had to swim out to the first bouey, then turn right and swim parallel to the boardwalk the .6 miles to the last bouey then exit the water.  They ran into the water, and very quickly, many were being tossed around by the waves.  Within 10 minutes (or so) 50 men had to "rescued" and brought back to the beach.  At that time they took their race numbers, and they were disqualified from the rest of the race.  They started the next wave, and it became evident that the waters were TOO rough to make this swim possible, so they cancelled the swim immediately.  There were a handful who made it out and actually did the whole swim - cudos to them!!  We then all walked back to boardwalk hall, and were told, we would doing a "time trial start" for the bike.  They would have 5 bikers take off every 5 seconds, out on our 22 mile bike ride.  It was cool bc it took place on the AC expressway.  Traffic was stopped, we rode through toll booths (they didn't make up pay thankfully), and although it was flat, it was SUPER windy.  We then got back to boardwalk hall, changed into our running gear and we were off on the 6.2 mile run.  It was another VERY flat, but windy 6.2 mile run.   But in the end, both Scott and I had GREAT times, on our bikes and run, and can't wait to do it again next year!!

And it was a fantastic way to end the triathlon season - I got second place in my division... was behind 1st place by 2 minutes and beat third place out by 18 minutes... but best of all, I felt great, had a great time doing the race and am VERY proud of my accomplishments!!

After packing up, we headed back to Ocean City to clean up and then enjoy the boardwalk for a bit.  It was great to spend some time with just scott.... which doesn't happen too much these days...  Of course it was short lived bc I had to drop him off at the airport on the way home, so he could go to florida for the week.  But at least we had a fun weekend doing what we love - racing!!!
all finished the AC International Triathlon - oh yeah!
taking my place on the second place podium
sprinting to that finishline
the waves... yes, this is why the swim was cancelled
the air show in Ocean City....

Angela was VERY excited that she was to dress up like a pirate on monday... which happened to be "national talk like a pirate day" (who comes up with these things?).  So, while we were are the shore over the weekend, we picked up a hat and an eye patch... both were BIG hits.  So, she dressed up and told her sister to "walk the plank"... good job getting into the day Angela!

some days they are just sooo cute.... and there is NOTHING else to say...

Crazy about reading!!!

I just LOVE seeing Angela sprawled out on the couch reading away.  She gets sooo excited when she can tell me everything that happened in the most recent book she read.  We are soo proud of our little reader!!  Keep up the good work Angela!

She kicks... she scores....

At least we hope that is what we hear this year!  Elyse started her first year of Micro Soccer (ages 4 and 5 ) with the Lower Southampton Athletic Assocation last friday night.   Luckily it did not rain and the kids got their uniforms and played their first game.  Elyse is on the yellow team and played like a champ.  She is looking forward to her next game...

PS - Angela will be starting her soccer practice this week with her first game on the 16th... since she is in the "big kids league"... wish us luck - LOL

It's Pre-K time for Elyse!!

It's a Wonderland... the Dutch kind

Each year we take a trip near the end of August to Dutch Wonderland, located in Lancaster Pa.  Our "original plans" were to go before Angela started school, but thanks to Hurricane Irene, we ended up hunkering down at home during this time.  So, we made the decision to go over labor day weekend - and boy are we happy we did.  We went on sunday night for the twilight hours, and the kids had a blast.  We then stayed overnight at the Fairfield Inn, and headed back in the morning.  We were amazed, the park was empty.  We waited in no lines, so what could be better?  The kids rode every ride many times and were exhasuted from all of the running around - and so were mommy and daddy!!!  We then made the trip home and it was time to head to bed and prepare to start another week of school... great time, great memories, and looking forward to going again next year!!

It truely was a fantastic trip... to see all of the pictures, use this link...

one last day of fun before school starts

Yes, this is out of order (time-wise), but on August 29th we ventured to the philadlephia zoo for one last "before school" trip with friends.  The Turners joined us... and everyone had a blast.  The kiddos got to ride the ponies, horses, check out the petting zoo, the swan boats, carousel... oh yeah, and saw some animals somewhere in there too.  The day was perfect and we can't wait to go again!!!

Elyse is enjoying her "only child time"...

After Angela gets on the school bus, Elyse easily falls into the "only child roll"... and does it well!!  Last week, we decided to take advantage of Sesame Place being open during the week, and have a fun day together.  Elyse even asked to bring a friend - so it was off to Sesame Place with Elyse and Leah.  They played the day away...

GREAT news... she liked school!!

And was VERY excited to go on her second day too!!

Angela is a first grader now!!

Angela started school on August 30th and was BEYOND excited.  This year she is in Miss Masulis's class and is very excited about eating lunch at school for the first time.  She is growing up sooo quickly!!!

which one does not belong?

I walked into Angela's room to find lots of "friends" on her bed... hmmmm
